Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer hands No. 16 Calvin first loss of season

ALBION – Something about Senior Night and a ranked opponent.

It has been 734 days since Calvin University last lost in the regular season. On Tuesday, the Albion College women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 15 games with a 3-2 win over No. 16 Calvin University. The last time the Knights lost in the regular season? October 20, 2021 on Albion's own Alumni Field.

Albion drew first blood in the 18th minute when Ella Jeske scored her second goal of the season. Avery Kasanic played a perfect ball to Jeske, who one-touched it past the Calvin keeper for a 1-0 Briton lead. The score would stand until halftime.

Out of the half, the Knights tied the game just three minutes in. It took just one minute and 15 seconds for Albion to regain the lead, as Avery Campbell proved why she is a multiple MIAA Champion in sprints on the track. Campbell outran the entire Calvin defense for a breakaway, burying the shot to give the Brits a 2-1 advantage.

An experienced Knights team found the equalizer in the 78th minute. But Campbell had other ideas, determined to give her team the win on Senior Night.

With just over four minutes on the clock, Campbell's speed was the difference maker in the game-winning goal. The goal – her eighth of the season – came from freshman Abby O'Connell

Defensively, Quinn Natschke had a monster night in the back third. The senior was a force in front of her sister, Romee Natschke, who made 10 saves in the win.

With the game still tied late in the match, Calvin had an opportunity right in front of Natschke in what appeared could lead to the go-ahead goal. On an emotional night, Erica Fischer made a tremendous tackle to win the ball and keep the Knights off the scoreboard.

Prior to the match, Albion recognized Campbell, Abby Rose, Colette Askins and the Natschke sisters.

At the conclusion of the regular season, Albion has three different players in the top five of statistical categories across the league. Campbell (8 goals), Rose (5 assists), Natschke (85 saves, .885 save percentage, 11 goals against, 0.76 GAA) all rank.

Albion earned the No. 5 seed in the MIAA Tournament. The Britons will head to No. 4 Adrian College on Saturday. A game time is yet to be determined.
