All bark, no bite: WSOC heads to Semifinals

ADRIAN, Mich. – What about those scoreless draws?

Peaking at the right time, the No. 5 seeded Albion College women's soccer team defeated No. 4 Adrian College, 2-1. Ella Jeske's second half goal proved to be the difference maker, sending Albion to the MIAA Semifinals.

The Bulldogs drew first blood with a goal in the eighth minute. Unfazed, the Britons battled back to find the equalizer moments later. After Adrian was whistled for a handball in the box, Mia Crawford stepped up and buried the penalty kick. Crawford's goal knotted the game at 1-1, as the score would stand headed into halftime.

Out of the half, Albion was ready to make a statement. Avery Campbell's speed was once again a huge difference maker, sending a beautiful ball to the far post. Jeske raced in and tapped the ball in, giving the visitors the 2-1 edge.

Romee Natschke made four saves – including a pair of tremendous ones late in the first half – to lead the Brits to victory.

Down the stretch, the Brits had tremendous play from its back line of Colette Askins, Quinn Natschke, Olivia Ahlgren and Erica Fischer.

On Tuesday, Albion will have a rematch with the No. 1 seed Calvin University. This past week, the Brits handed the Knights their first loss of the season. Kickoff in Grand Rapids is set for 7 p.m.
