Game Recap: Softball |

Jozefczyk's walkoff helps softball split

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – A walkoff win helped the Albion College softball team split on Monday afternoon, improving to 3-1 overall on the young season. Both Courtney Ellis and Chloe Miller turned in stellar game ones at the platt to keep the Brits over .500.

GAME ONE: Albion 4 NVU-Lyndon 3

Backed by a 3 for 3 effort from both Chloe Miller and Courtney Ellis, the Britons were able to win game one in walkoff fashion. NVU-Lyndon got on the board first in the top of the fourth, but the Brits were able to tie the game immediately in the home half of the frame.

With two away and pinch runner Hannah Petty on second, Miller laced a single to center to drive in the sophomore to tie the game up at one.

Albion struck for a pair of runs in the fifth, ignited by Ellis's leadoff double. Lizzie Bizzett sac bunted Ellis over, but Ellis took advantage of a lackadaisical defense and scored all the way from second, taking a 2-1 lead. The Britons added an unearned run to hold a two run cushion after five.

NVU-Lyndon tied the game in the top of the seventh, setting up the dramatic end for the Brits. Ellis doubled to lead off the frame and moved to third on a Bissett bunt hit. Junior Jacqueline Jozefczyk played the role of hero, lifting a fly ball into center to score Ellis and give Albion the win.

Sophomore Kearney Miller (1-0) went the distance, allowing just three runs and striking out five in the win.

GAME TWO: Mary Washington 6 Albion 0

A tough Mary Washington team got the Better of Albion, forcing the Britons to settle for a split on day two of their spring trip. Albion recorded just four hits in the loss, unable to scratch across any runs along the way.

Despite the loss, MIAA Pitcher of the Week Ashley Pion struck out 11 in the game.

Albion returns to the diamond tomorrow for a doubleheader against Shawnee State and Mary Washington.
