Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

MLAX, Conley complete comeback in wild finish

Albion scored four times in the final 3:36 to secure the win and remain unbeaten.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Call it a comeback.

Trailing nearly the entirety of the contest, the Albion College men's lacrosse team used a heroic last-minute goal from Jace Conley to knock off Rhodes College, 17-16. With 1:04 on the clock, Conley netted the game-winner to steal a win from the Lynx.

Albion scored four times in the final 3:36 to turn a three goal deficit into a big time win.

Conley led all scorers with five goals and three assists. Senior captain Sam Puzevic tacked on four goals and one assist in the win. Eddie Symons continued to be above .500 from the faceoff X, winning 20 of 36 while picking up 11 ground balls.

After one, the hosts had a 4-2 advantage. Albion finally got on the board with a goal from Timmy Salinas and another from Conley in the period.

Throughout the second, the momentum began to shift in favor of the Britons, eventually taking a slim lead. Using a 5-0 run, Albion took an 8-6 lead over Rhodes. Goals from Cal Stearns, Symons, Brendan Mercier, Eric Fraeyman and Sam Puzevic highlighted the run. Rhodes scored twice in the half, as the teams went into halftime deadlocked at eight.

In the third, the hosts outscored the Britons 6-2 to hold a 14-11 lead. With 15 minutes to go, the Britons remained calm to complete the comeback.

Puzevic ignited the crazy comeback with the first of the four goals throughout the final three minutes. On a EMO, Conley scored off a pass from Puzevic to bring the Brits to within one. Junior Brock Yabs scored the tying strike with 1:13 to play, setting up the finish.

Symons won the face off and the Brits immediately went down field. Albion needed just nine seconds for Conley to score the GWG and give Albion the win.

Fifth year Jack Gogonis (3-0) made 16 saves in the win.

Ethan Rottell caused a team-best four turnovers, while Yabs recorded three CTs.

Albion will have a rematch with the University of Dubuque on Saturday from last year's NCAA Tournament. Game time is set for 12:30 p.m. EST.
