Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's lacrosse back in win column

Jace Conley and Cal Stearns combined for 11 points.

KENOSHA, Wis. – Back on track.

Following a three game slide, the Albion College men's lacrosse team punched back with a 17-14 victory on the road over Carthage College. The Brits were led by Jace Conley's seven points and a near 60 percent mark from the faceoff X from Eddie Symons

Carthage scored first, but the Brits answered less than a minute later when Symons won the faceoff and connected with Conley to tie the game. In the final minute of the first quarter, the Firebirds took a 3-2 lead as Albion's other goal came from freshman Marcus Haynie

Trailing by two, Cal Stearns played a big part in helping the visitors even the game at four. The freshman scored four minutes into the second period, and then assisted on a Sam Puzevic man up goal moments later. The teams would continue to trade goals, seeing Carthage take a 6-5 lead into halftime.

Out of the half, Stearns, Brock Yabs and Eric Fraeyman all scored within the first five minutes, turning a one goal deficit into a two goal lead. That lead would be short-lived, as the hosts worked to tie it back up – a common occurrence throughout the day.

With 4:08 remaining in the third, Symons scored a huge man down goal, giving Albion a 12-10 cushion heading into the fourth quarter.

After a Firebird goal, the Brits rattled off three goals in 90 seconds to build the advantage to 15-11. Fraeyman, Conley and Ethan Rottell were all part of the scoring in that stretch.

Fifth year senior Jack Gogonis made 21 saves in net.

Conley ended the day with four goals and three assists to lead all scorers. Stearns tied his career-best with four points on the afternoon.

Symons was 20 of 34 from the X, picking up 18 ground balls. Defensively, sophomore Will Tessin caused two turnovers.

Albion will have just over a week off before hosting Southwestern. Game time on Apr. 2 is set for noon.
