Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Milestone day leads MLAX past Southwestern

One school record and four milestones were achieved in the win.

ALBION – In a milestone and record breaking day, the Albion College men's lacrosse team pummeled Southwestern University, 25-15. On the day, the Brits saw five players break a record or achieve a career milestone.

Albion's success was led by a 38-41 day at the faceoff X by Eddie Symons. The senior picked up 31 ground balls, setting a new single game record. The record was previously set by Quinn Dobrzelewski, who totaled 28 in 2018.

With a five point afternoon, Sam Puzevic reached 218 career points, surpassing Tim Urso for second all-time. Brock Yabs reached the 100 career point threshold, while Ethan Rottell and Jace Conley both dished out their 100th assist on Sunday.

Just under five minutes in, Albion held a 4-0 lead thanks to goals from Conley, Rottell, Eric Fraeyman and Cal Stearns. After a Pirate goal, the Britons exploded to end the first period on a 7-0 run, taking a commanding 11-1 lead into the second quarter. After a pair of goals from Conley, four of Albion's next five came on man-up opportunities.

Southwestern gained a little momentum in the second, but Albion's offense did plenty in the opening quarter to take a 14-6 lead into halftime.

Just 41 seconds into the third quarter, Rottell found Brendan Mercier for the sophomore's 12th goal of the season. Mercier tacked on another goal minutes later, as the visitors did not score a second half goal until 6:01 remaining in the third. Keegan Pastor scored his first goal of the season in the third, as junior Matt Montgomery capped off the scoring in the quarter.

Leading 22-7 after three, Albion's final three goals came from Montgomery, Fabrizio Raciti and Jeremiah Jones

Conley led all scorers with five goals and five assists. Puzevic netted four goals while adding an assist. Stearns, a freshman, had another solid day, scoring four times and tacking on a pair of assists. Yabs added three assists in the win.

Fifth year Jack Gogonis (5-3) earned the win in net, making six saves along the way. Bradley Luketic made five saves in just under 13 minutes in goal.

Using EMOs to their advantage, Albion cashed in on six of eight man-up opportunities.

The Britons currently sit at 6-3.
