Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Belles break the hearts of WLAX with late goal

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – In another heartbreaker, the Albion College women's lacrosse team came up short in an 11-10 loss at Saint Mary's College. With 16 seconds on the clock, the Belles scored an unassisted goal, drowning out a feverish comeback by the Britons.

After a high-scoring first quarter, the two teams were locked at four. Sophomores Kellie Flynn and Kyndall Lewis scored the first two goals for the Brits. Albion's other two strikes in the period came from Logan Hutchinson and Angelina Mendtiera.

One minute into the second, Hayla-Lyn Gilly recorded her first collegiate goal to put the Britons ahead. Midway through the second, Hutchinson netted her second goal of the day. Olivia Dameron wrapped up the scoring in the first half, as the Brits trailed 8-7 at the break.

Saint Mary's shut out Albion in the third, taking a 10-7 lead into the fourth. Lewis, Dameron and Addie Pastor all scored to even the contest at 10 with 1:37 to play. With the score knotted at 10, the Belles scored the game-winner in dramatic fashion to steal the win.

The two teams were near even in almost every stat except on the draw, where the Belles dominated, 17-8.

Albion will host Adrian on Friday for a 7 p.m. game.
