Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Champions! MLAX claims fifth MIAA Regular Season title

Jace Conley's 10 points led the Brits in a blowout of Alma.

ALBION – For the fifth time in program history, the Albion College men's lacrosse team has won the MIAA Regular Season Championship. The Britons won the league outright after handily defeating Alma College, 28-8 on Senior Night.

Prior to the game, the Brits celebrated their six seniors – Sam Puzevic, Eddie Symons, Chad Burton, Jacob Castles, Eric Fraeyman and Alex Unterriker

Fifth year senior led the Britons with 10 points, scoring five goals and dishing out five assists. He now sits at 104 points this year, being the only Albion player to reach the 100 point threshold in a single season, as this is the third time he reached the mark.

Symons built his faceoff winning percentage to 62 percent, winning 18 of 27 from the X, tallying 15 ground balls. Sophomore Robbie Dameron had a career night, recording six points in the win.

After missing most of the season due to injury, Castles returned for a four goal performance. Freshman Cal Stearns closed out a solid campaign for MIAA Rookie of the Year with four goals and an assist.

Five minutes into the contest, the Britons held a 5-0 advantage as five different players scored in that stretch. By the end of the first, Albion had a seven goal lead, commanding the momentum of the game. At the half, the Britons led 15-4.

Defensively, Burton caused a game-high three turnovers. Jack Gogonis made five saves in just 23 minutes of action, earning the win.

14 Albion players recorded at least one point. The Britons outshot the Scots, 86-35. Albion was also an effective 5 for 8 on EMOs.

"I can't think of a better way to celebrate Senior Night than to have our guys playing well," said head coach Jake DeCola. "To have a senior who's been hurt most of the year [Castles] score four and secure our fifth out of 10 league titles is awesome. We're really proud of our guys, but we know we have a ton of work to do in front of us."

With the No. 1 seed in the MIAA Tournament, Albion will await the winner of tomorrow's Kalamazoo-Trine game before their opponent is determined. Game time on Wednesday, May 3 will be at 7 p.m.
