Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Perfect 10! MLAX moves on to 10th straight championship game

ALBION – Death, taxes and Albion's men's lacrosse in the MIAA Championship game.

In all 10 seasons the MIAA has sponsored men's lacrosse, the Britons have competed in the championship game every year. On Wednesday, Albion knocked off Kalamazoo College, 22-10, in the MIAA Semifinals to advance to Saturday's championship contest.

The dangerous trio of Sam Puzevic, Jace Conley and Cal Stearns combined for 18 points in the win. Conley led all scorers with four goals and three assists, as Puzevic netted four goals and tacked on two assists.

Senior LSM Chad Burton caused a career-high six turnovers for the Britons.

MIAA Defensive Player of the Year, Eddie Symons, won the opening faceoff and ran all the way to the goal to give the Brits a 1-0 lead just 13 seconds into the game. Symons picked up 17 ground balls in the victory.

Two minutes later, Stearns scored his first of the evening before a Conley strike made it 3-0 in favor of the hosts. After another Conley goal, Kalamazoo rattled off three straight to cut the deficit to one. Conley and Brock Yabs answered for the No. 1 seed, giving the Brits a 6-3 boost after one.

The teams traded goals to open the second quarter before a 4–0 run inflated the Albion lead to 11-5. In that stretch, Albion received goals from Ethan Rottell, Marcus Haynie, Matt Montgomery and Puzevic. Following another goal by the Hornets. Puzevic, Symons and Robbie Dameron all scored before the half, lifting Albion to a 14-6 lead.

With an eight goal lead, the Britons maintained all of the momentum in the second half.

Albion was 19 of 22 on the clear, but just 3 of 8 in man-up opportunities. Symons was 21 for 33 from the faceoff X, as his season percentage continues to remain above 60 percent.

Fifth year senior Jack Gogonis set the Albion College single season saves record in the win. With eight saves, he surpassed the mark of 207 by Trevor McManus back in 2017.

In the other semifinal matchup, Hope defeated Adrian 16-7, and the Britons will host the Flying Dutch in the finals.

On Saturday, the championship game will be held at Alumni Field at 7 p.m.
