Baseball stumbles in MIAA opener

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – After a rain delay and a whole lot of "will they won't they," a back and forth affair did not go in the favor of the Albion College baseball team. In a single game Monday, the Brits dropped their MIAA opener to Kalamazoo College, 13-6.

After sending eight batters to plate in the top of the first, the Britons held an early 3-0 lead. Ryker Mazey and Matt McGann drew walks, with an error in between to load the bases with one away. Sophomore Austyn Stephens's hot hitting continued with a base hit up the middle, bringing in both Mazey and Mark Lauro. Evan Schuster followed with a double to left, plating McGann for the early lead. 

The Hornets took a 4-3 lead before McGannrecorded another clutch hit. The junior hit a two-run double, driving in Lauro and Logan Farmer to give Albion a 5-4 lead in the top of the fourth. Both Farmer and Lauro reached via walks. 

A four run sixth and a three run seventh by the Hornets sealed the deal for the home team. 

Albion's final run came in the eighth off an RBI single from Stephens. 

Stephens, McGann and Schuster all tallied two hits in the loss. 

As of now, Albion is scheduled to host Olivet in a single game on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The second game of this series was PPD and a makeup date is TBA. Game three – hosted by Albion – has been moved to Apr. 26.
