Softball stumbles at Alma

ALMA, Mich. — In the final road twinbill of the season, the Albion College softball team was swept by Alma College.

GAME ONE: Alma 6 Albion 5

After rallying for four runs in the top of the sixth, the Britons fell on a heartbreaking walk off loss to the Scots in game one.

In the top of the first, Jacqueline Jozefczyk led off the game with an opposite field single and moved to second on a passed ball. With two outs, Parker Douglass lined a base hit to right, driving in Jozefczyk for a 1-0 lead.

Alma struck for four runs in the second and another in the third, holding a 5-1 lead through six.

Back to back singles from Lilly Patillo and Douglass started the sixth inning rally for the visitors. With one out, freshman Lauren Creon smoked a double to right center, driving in two pinch runners, Rachel Horecki and Hannah Petty, cutting the deficit to two runs.

With two on and two out, Dylan Cardinale came in to pinch hit. A grounder to short appeared to end the inning, but an overthrow allowed two runners to cross to tie the game up at five.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Scots used a sac fly to plate the game winning run – an unearned run.

Albion outhit Alma in the game, 11-8. The 3-4-5 hitters in Patillo, Douglass and Chloe Miller all recorded two hits apiece.

GAME TWO: Alma 16 Albion 1

Alma used an eight run fourth to build on an already sizable 5-0 advantage.

Both Lizzie Bissett and Patillo finished with two hits apiece. Albion's lone run came in the bottom of the third when Douglass reached on an error.

Albion concludes its season on Saturday when the Britons host Hope College. Game times are slated for 3 and 5 p.m.
