Women's soccer cruises to road win

Freshman Belle Beman scored twice for her first collegiate points.

Box Score FRANKLIN, Ind. – What's that saying? It's not how you start, but how you finish.

Less than 24 hours after a win and a four hour bus trip, the Albion College women's soccer team earned a 4-0 win at Franklin College on Sunday afternoon. Despite a sluggish first half, the Brits scored twice within a minute of each other to improve to 3-1-2 overall. The match featured plenty of collegiate firsts for a young, but extremely talented squad.

Following a scoreless first half, Albion had an opportunity with a corner kick in the 68th minute. Freshman Abby O'Connell's ball was struck into the net off the foot of Quinn Natschke. The goal was Natschke's second on a set piece in as many days and O'Connell's first collegiate point.

44 seconds later, the visitors doubled their lead when Avery Campbell scored her third goal of the season. A beautiful through ball played to Avery Kasanic led to the Campbell goal for the 2-0 lead.

Albion's third goal came in the 78th minute when Belle Beman scored her first collegiate goal. A gorgeous shot into the upper right corner came off a feed from Ryann Locke.

The final goal of the afternoon came from Beman once again. Ella Jeske, playing very well of late, crossed a ball to the freshman. Beman finished with a header past the Franklin goalkeeper for the 4-0 margin.

Romee Natschke extended her scoreless streak, making two saves in net. Freshman Mattie Stanton closed out the final 10 minutes, preserving the shutout while picking up one save.

On Wednesday, Albion heads to Lawrence Tech for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
