Game Recap: Football |

Football welcomes home alumni with win

Albion's Homecoming game was one to remember, thanks to big days by Bristow and Jones-Price.

ALBION – Welcome home!

In front of a packed house on Homecoming weekend, the Albion College football team put up 529 yards of total offense in a 44-17 victory over Kalamazoo College. The Briton defense put up a Cleveland Browns-esque number, limiting the Hornets to just 20 rushing yards, as Kalamazoo converted just 5 of 19 third downs.

Luke Lovell was an incredibly efficient 21 of 27 for 306 yards and three passing touchdowns. Both Phillip Jones-Price and Kye Bristow had 100+ yard, two touchdown afternoons. Jones-Price ran for 106 yards and a touchdown, as well as hauling in a 39-yard TD pass. Bristow caught six passes for 102 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

With eight tackles and two pass breakups, Larry Reed Jr. had a career day. Nick Fannon added to his MIAA leading total with two sacks. Freshman punter Chris Bowman registered three punts for 139 yards, landing one inside the 20 and another at the 21.

Receiving the opening kickoff, the Britons marched down the field for a 75-yard drive, culminating in a Jones-Price 1-yard touchdown. Logan Grwinski was 5 for 5 of PATs, as he put Albion ahead 7-0.

Kalamazoo answered with a field goal before the Brits pulled ahead 14-3 at the end of one. Lovell connected with Bristow over the middle for a 23-yard TD strike. Early on in the second, Albion inflated its lead to 21-3, thanks to a beautiful ball down the sideline to Jones-Price. The fifth year's receiving touchdown was once again answered by a Kalamazoo field goal. Albion's final score of the half came when Lovell and Bristow put up another six points. At the half, the hosts led 28-14.

Colby-Taylor Browning tacked on a 4-yard rush in the third. Heading into the final 15 minutes, the Britons led 38-17.

Nevin Dent's first career touchdown capped off the scoring for the afternoon, as he bulldozed his way into the end zone on a 3-yard rush.

Albion is now 5-0, 1-0 in the MIAA. The Britons are averaging 41 points per game, and limiting opponents to under 17 points per game.

The Britons head to Hope next weekend for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
