Women's wrestling goes 1-1 at Tiffin Duals

TIFFIN, Ohio – Returning to the mats for the first time in 2024, the Albion College women's wrestling team went 1-1 at the Tiffin University duals. Albion lost to the host Dragons in the first dual before ending the day victorious over John Carroll University. 

TIFFIN 23 ALBION 20

After a double forfeit at 101, the Britons earned five points via forfeit in the 109 bout. The Dragons knotted the score at 116 following a pin before Jayla Oberst put the Brits back in front. The junior co-captain picked up a 10-0 tech fall victory at 123 in just 2:26 to give Albion a 9-5 advantage. 

Tiffin regained the lead after a pin at 130 as Danielle Ruiz claimed a victory with a 17 second fall at 136. In the 143 bout, freshman Jessica Martinez narrowly dropped a tight 11-10 contest before two forfeits gave Tiffin the win. At 191, Logan Ryan pinned her opponent in 3:46. 

ALBION 34 JOHN CARROLL 10

The Britons rounded out the day with a big win over John Carroll University. At 109, Lynsey Light picked up a tech fall in just 1:58, earning four points for the Britons. The sophomore cruised to a 10-0 victory. Albion claimed 15 points over the next three matches via forfeit. 

At 143, Martinez earned her first collegiate pin in 1:52.


On Jan. 27, the Britons head to the Warrior Open hosted by Indiana Tech.
