Women's wrestling dominates in season debut

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – That's how you start a season.

In their biggest win to date, the Albion College women's wrestling team kicked off the season with a 50-0 win over John Carroll University. All seven of Albion's wrestlers pinned their opponents in the victory.

After the Britons went up 10-0 from two forfeits, senior Jayla Oberst provided Albion with five more points thanks to a fall in 3:45. No. 19 nationally ranked Hannah Arledge followed with a pin in 1:23 in the 124 bout. At 130, Danielle Ruiz followed with a fall in 1:00 for a 25-0 lead through the midway point.

Sophomore Jessica Martinez won in 1:46 at 138 before freshman Keaton Hood earned a pin over a returning National Qualifier at 145 (1:33). Brynn Green and Abbie Miles made their Albion debuts in big ways, with Green pinning her opponent in 1:20 and Miles in 1:03.

The Britons host Tiffin University on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. dual.
