Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball rolls past Lions

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Dominant from the tip, the Albion College men's basketball team rolled to an 84-63 win over Mount Saint Joseph. Five players tallied at least nine points, as 12 of the 16 players who saw minutes scored.

Leading the way was sophomore Dwayne Ray, who was a perfect 5 of 5 from the floor and 2 for 2 from the foul line, scoring 12 points. AJ Barden recorded a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Off the bench, Michael Umeh added 11 points for the Britons.

The Britons broke out to an immediate 9-0 lead, thanks to an opening possession triple off the hand of Beck Willems

Albion maintained momentum throughout the remainder of the period, cruising to a 41-28 advantage at the break. With a deep bench and balanced scoring attack, Albion was able to get buckets from 10 different players over the first 20 minutes.

In the first half, the Brits shot a blistering 70.8 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from three. Comparatively, MSJ was a measly 25 percent from the field and was 3 of 20 from beyond the arc.

Out of the half, a three by BJ Hunter and a MSJ turnover led to an and-one from Marco Lucchesi, seeing Albion claim a 19-point advantage. Albion continuously pressured the Lions, forcing the hosts into tough shots and empty possessions.

Jaylen Flaniken and Kurtis Rhodes each scored nine points. Flaniken accounted for a team-high three assists and Barden led the defense with four steals.

Tomorrow, the Brits wrap up the Lauren Hill Classic at Mount Saint Joseph with a 4 p.m. tip against Hiram College.
