Women's tennis prevails in spring opener

ALBION – In their spring debut, the Albion College women's tennis team earned a 6-3 win over Saint Francis University. 

The women's team got their spring season underway with a gritty win against the Cougars. After doubles, the Britons held a 2-1 lead thanks to wins at second and third doubles. The senior duo of Keiley Black and Savannah McDonald handily knocked off their opponents by an 8-2 margin. In the final doubles matchup, it was a pair of freshmen in Emma Madden and Abbie Hubbard who put together an 8-6 victory.

In singles play, the hosts won the final four matches to secure the team win. At third singles, Black picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win. Hubbard had one of the best matches of the day in a come from behind tiebreaker win at third singles. After dropping the first set, the freshman rallied to win 6-4, 11-9. McDonald cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win in fifth singles before Molly Dunn closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the final singles bout. 

The women will be in action again on Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. when they host Spring Arbor.
