Women's wrestling sends four to Nationals, takes third at Regionals

ERIE, Pa. – For the third consecutive year, the Albion College women's wrestling team will be sending multiple wrestlers to the National Championships. In addition to four wrestlers punching tickets, Albion had three Regional Champions – also the first in program history.

Gabby Motz (101), Hannah Arledge (123), Danielle Ruiz (130) and Logan Ryan (191) all punched tickets to the NCWWC Nationals, held Mar. 8-9 in Cedar Rapids.

At 101, Motz was a Regional Champion, winning with a 12-0 tech fall before a pin in just 1:55 in the championship bout.

Arledge went on to win the Regional title at 123, as all three of her wins were pins. She pinned her first opponent in 17 seconds before a 2:48 fall sent her into the championship bout. The sophomore secured her title with a pin in 2:12 in the finals.

Ruiz was the runner-up in the 130 pound bracket. The sophomore will be joining Arledge and Motz as a two-time National Qualifier after a 10-0 tech fall in the semifinals.

Ryan's first regional appearance ended in a 191 pound title, including a 23-second pin in the semifinals.

Sophomore Lynsey Light finished seventh at 109, earning a tech fall on the afternoon. In her regional debut, Jessica Martinez took fifth at 143. In her final match of the day, the freshman pinned her opponent in 2:09.

Albion claims their first trophy by finishing third in the region. As a team, the Britons scored 109 points.

The quartet will prepare for Nationals. More information will be announced in the coming weeks.
