Game Recap: Softball |

Miller, Zaskowski homer at Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – In a pair of tightly contested games, the Albion College softball team was swept by Manchester University on Wednesday. Both Kearney Miller and Lilly Zaskowski each slugged their second home runs of the season on the day.

GAME ONE: Manchester 7 Albion 3

With Manchester leading 3-0 through four, Albion trimmed the lead to one run in the top of the fifth. Zaskowski crushed a leadoff home run for the first Albion run of the inning. Megan Maiuri followed with an opposite field single and was lifted for pinch runner, Hannah Petty. Parker Douglass's pinch hit single drove in Petty, cutting the Spartan lead to 3-2.

Miller's home run came in the top of the sixth, tying the game at three. The Spartans responded in the home half, erupting for four runs off four hits.

In game one, the Britons were limited to just six hits.

GAME TWO: Manchester 8 Albion 6

A late rally came up short for Albion in the nightcap. Zaskowski – red hot – singled home the first run of the game for a 1-0 lead after one. Manchester struck for four runs, aided by two Albion errors in the bottom of the second, pushing the hosts ahead 4-1.

Miller drove in her second run of the day in the top of the third, bringing home Jacqueline Jozefczyk, who singled through the left side. The Spartans answered with a run of their own for a 5-2 advantage through three.

Trailing 8-3 heading into the top of the seventh, the Britons put together a rally for three runs. Emma Schramm worked a one-out walk and Josefczyk singled. With runners at the corners, Courtney Ellis smoked a single up the middle, bringing in Schramm. Miller once again drove in another run off a double for an 8-5 deficit. With two away, Zaskowski singled up the middle to bring home Miller, but the final out was recorded before the visitors could push across the final two runs.

Miller and Zaskowski each finished with three hits and two RBI.

The Britons will be off until next Wednesday when they host Defiance College. The doubleheader is a makeup from 3/24 and will begin at 3 p.m.
