Softball draws tough MIAA opener

ALMA, Mich. – Taking on a tough MIAA foe, the Albion College softball team dropped its MIAA opener to Alma College. In game one, the Scots won 7-0 before taking game two, 7-1. 

Albion recorded just two hits in game one, coming from Kiersten Wilkin and Kearney Miller. The Scots took advantage of the eight free passes from the pitching staff, also collecting seven hits. As a team, the Brits struck out seven times. 

In the second game, with Albion batting as the home team, the Brits answered after an Alma run. Senior Jacqueline Jozefczyk worked a leadoff walk and advanced 60 feet when Courtney Ellis also drew a free pass. A base hit from Miller was followed by a RBI single off the bat of Lilly Zaskowski, tying the game at 1-1.

Alma went on to score six unanswered to seal the nightcap. 

Tomorrow, Albion hosts Defiance College for games at 3 and 5 p.m., as a makeup from Mar. 24 and Apr. 3.
