Baseball drops MIAA opener

ALBION – On Friday, the Albion College baseball team dropped its MIAA opener, 9-1, to Kalamazoo College. Despite the Albion pitching staff recording 14 strikeouts, the Hornets were able to put up runs in multiple innings. 

Kalamazoo held an early 4-1 lead before Albion scratched across its lone run of the day. Ryker Mazey and Garrett Draper led off the bottom of the third with singles and advanced 90 feet on a sac bunt by Carson Dunn. Mark Lauro rolled over a grounder to second, plating Mazey for Albion's run. 

The Britons committed four errors in the loss, as six of Kalamazoo's runs were unearned. Sophomore Cole Giesige (0-1) struck out 10 in five innings of work. 

Tomorrow, the series concludes with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Originally scheduled to be played at Kalamazoo, the Brits will host the twinbill.
