Baseball erupts for 19 runs in rout of North Central

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Albion College baseball team put on an electric hitting clinic in Monday's 19-2 win over North Central University. As a team, the Britons smacked 22 hits, featuring seven players with multi-hit days.

Not to be outdone by the offense, Sean Cooper (1-0) tossed five innings of no-hit baseball. The junior allowed no runs, no hits and struck out six.

Carson Dunn led the way, going 4 for 5 with two RBI and three runs scored. Sophomore Evan Schuster had a career day, driving in five runs off three hits and swiped two bags. Mark Lauro, Matt McGann, Ethan Caris, Kris Stojanovski and Ryker Mazey all finished with two hits in the win.

The Britons got on the board first when Dunn's leadoff single was followed two hitters later from a single off the bat of Stojanovski. Albion tacked on two more in the top of the third when Schuster smacked an opposite field single through the right side, plating both Dunn and McGann.

Albion broke the game open in the top of the fourth by putting up a six spot. Ethan Caris hit a ground ball up the middle and moved to third when Dunn doubled. Lauro laced a base hit to right, driving in both runners. McGann then brought in Lauro with a single that hugged the left field line. After another Schuster RBI, Jack Lasceski cracked a two-run home run to right field, seeing Albion hold a 9-0 advantage.

Both Lauro and McGann recorded RBI hits in the fifth, as Lauro belted a double that hit the base of the fence. The Brits tacked on three more in the top of the sixth inning when a Caris double and a wild pitch proved costly to the Rams. The Britons tacked on five more in the seventh to secure the win.

Albion will take on Waynesburg tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
