Robertson's relief outing helps baseball win fourth straight

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Someone get this kid a Diet Coke.

Diet Coke fiend Luke Robertson threw six masterful innings in relief as the Albion College baseball team defeated Waynesburg University, 5-4. The Britons improve to 4-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 on the Florida trip while handing Waynesburg its first loss of the season.

Robsterson (2-0) earned the win, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out eight. Zak Kelly made his first collegiate start, giving a solid 3+ innings for the Brits.

After slugging 22 hits on Monday, the Brits recorded 14 on Tuesday. Albion jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Evan Schuster drew a leadoff walk and came around to score when Jack Lasceski crushed a double to the gap in right center. Two batters later, junior Ryker Mazey smacked his first of three hits on the day to drive in Lasceski.

Waynesburg cut the deficit to 2-1 in the third, but the Britons pushed across a pair of runs in the fourth. The rally once again started with Schuster, who walked, stole second and advanced to third on a balk. Braeden Emery cranked a double to right, driving in Schuster before coming home on another RBI single off the bat of Mazey.

The Jackets responded in the home half of the frame with two runs as well, making it a 4-3 game. Albion's final run came in the fifth when Matt McGann's double led to scoring on a passed ball.

With the tying run on second and the winning run at first, Robertson induced a groundout to Emery at second to seal the win.

Tomorrow, the Brits will take on Thomas College at 1 p.m.
