WINSday: baseball wins fifth straight

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Another incredible pitching performance by the Albion College baseball team led the Brits to a 4-0 win over Thomas College. Sophomores Garrett Draper and Evan Schuster led the offense going 3 for 4 in the win.

Rykey Mazey and Garrett Draper led off the bottom of the third inning with back to back singles to left. With one away, Evan Schuster lined a ball to left, bringing in Mazey for a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Mazey drew a two-out walk. Sophomore Garrett Draper followed with a double down the right field line to bring around Mazey from first and inflate the Albion advantage to 2-0. Albion's third run came in the bottom of the sixth with the bottom of the order once again doing damage. Mazey reached and advanced to second on a passed ball. The Britons received another huge two-out base knock off the bat of Draper, lining a single up the middle to extend the lead.

Austyn Stephens drove in the fourth Albion run in the home half of the seventh with a turf-aided triple. Fifth year Mark Lauro scored on the play to give Albion a four-run cushion.

Sophomore Danny Bruzdewicz (1-0) earned the win on the bump, tossing six shutout innings. Bruzdewicz allowed just four hits and struck out three on the day. Scotty Clippert was masterful in relief, throwing three scoreless innings while fanning three.

Albion was stellar defensively all day, with Braeden Emery making numerous defensive gems in the win.

The Brits conclude their Florida trip on Thursday morning at 9:15 a.m. against Penn State-Altoona.
