Pitching dazzles in sweep at Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Backed by three stellar performances in the circle, the Albion College softball team picked up two wins in Myrtle Beach. Albion knocked off PSU-Du Bois, 6-1 before dropping Rosemont, 6-0. Lilly Zaskowski, Alaina Brown and Makayla Frost recorded 14 innings of work and did not walk a single batter on the day.

GAME ONE: Albion 6 PSU-Du Bois 1

Plating a pair in the bottom of the first, the Britons never looked back, earning their second straight victory. Kiersten Wilkin laced a two-out double and came around to score on a single off the bat of Parker Douglass. Freshman Jessie Anstandig singled up the middle, driving in Douglass to lead 2-0 after one.

Albion exploded for a 4-spot in the bottom of the fourth for a 6-0 advantage. Lilly Zaskowski's hot bat carried over into Monday with a leadoff single, starting a string of four straight hits. Megan Maiuri and Emma Schramm singled before Kearney Miller's pinch hit single drove in a pair. Wilkin and Douglass tallied the other RBI singles in the inning.

Alaina Brown picked up her first collegiate win in the circle. The freshman threw five innings, giving up one unearned run while striking out three and walking none. Makayla Frost hurled the final two innings, allowing just one hit in the outing.

GAME TWO: Albion 6 Rosemont 0

In the nightcap, Zaskowski drove in three runs as Kearney Miller and Chloe MIller each had a pair of hits. The Britons opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the first. Wilkin and Kearney Miller each singled and came home on a Zaskowski triple. Two batters later, Chloe Miller drove in Zaskowski, before she came around to score on a double from Dylan Cardinale

Kearney Miller scorched a triple to right field, bringing in Courtney Ellis in the top of the fourth. She later scored when Zaskowski grounded out to second for a RBI.

Zaskowski went the distance in the circle, scattering six hits while striking out five.

The trip continues tomorrow with another twinbill. Albion will face Wilson College at 9 a.m. followed by PSU-Abington at 11 a.m.
