MLAX knocks off Trine on Senior Day

ALBION – With all 10 seniors getting the start, the Albion College men's lacrosse team defeated Trine University, 13-9 on Senior Day. Prior to the contest, Albion recognized its senior class of Matt Montgomery, Vaughn Shewell, Ethan Rottell, Gabe Rothman, Nathan Vesper, Parker McFarlane, Bradley Luketic, Brock Yabs, Timmy Salinas and Logan Bonner. 

Rottell led all players with six points, coming off three goals and three assists. Salinas added four points, courtesy of a hat trick and an assist, while Bonner tallied a career-high five caused turnovers. 

Trine stuck first, but goals from Keegan Pastor and Salinas pushed the Britons in front at the end of one period, 2-1. In the second, Albion exploded for seven goals, the first coming from Rottell. Shewell's man-up goal vaulted the hosts in front before Brendan Mercier, Cal Stearns and Robbie Dameron all struck for goals. 

A late goal from Salinas saw the Britons leading 9-5 at halftime. Marcus Haynie and Rottell netted goals in the third, as Albion had a four goal lead heading into the final quarter. 

The Britons were 24 of 27 on the clear. The squad was also a perfect 2 of 2 in EMOs, holding Trine to 0 of 8 on their EMOs. 

Luketic made 16 saves in goal. 

Albion heads to Alma tomorrow for a 1 p.m. faceoff.
