MLAX dominates Alma, wins third straight

ALMA, Mich. – A dominant first half helped the Albion College men's lacrosse team win its third straight, defeating Alma College 22-5.

15 different players recorded at least a point, with Marcus Haynie and Andrew Miller leading the way with four points apiece. Haynie led to his MIAA-leading goal total with four goals, as Miller scored a hat trick and added an assist.

The Brits opened the game with an eight goal first quarter. By halftime, the visitors had built a 15-2 lead over the Scots. In the first quarter, the Britons received two goals each from Miller and Haynie, as well as strikes from Cal Stearns, Keegan Pastor and Brendan Mercier. All seven of Albion's goals in the second quarter came from seven different players. Mercier, Haynie, Stearns and Miller all added to their stat lines, while Brock Yabs, Carson Farkas and Ethan Rottell notched their first goals of the day.

Albion started off the third quarter with goals from juniors Fabrizio Raciti and Ryan Meldrum. Senior attacker Vaughn Shewell scored both the last goal of the third and the first of the fourth to inflate the Briton lead to 19-3. Farkas – already with his first collegiate goal in the game – scored his second in the final period, before Gabe Rothman scored his second of the season. Albion rounded out the day by Ethan Barker scoring his first collegiate goal.

Freshman Luke Szymanski earned the win in net, making three saves in two quarters.

Robbie Dameron was 16 of 20 from the faceoff X, picking up a career-best 11 ground balls. Sophomore Ben Schollett led Albion's defense with four caused turnovers.

As a team, Albion fired off 82 shots. The Britons were phenomenal on the clear, converting 28 of 29 attempts.

On Saturday, the Britons head to Ohio Wesleyan University for a non-conference matchup against a tough regional opponent. First face off is set for 1 p.m.
