WLAX clinches spot in MIAA Tournament

ALMA, Mich. – They're in!

Picked to finish seventh in the MIAA Preseason rankings, the Albion College women's lacrosse team knocked off Alma College 16-10 to clinch the final spot in next week's MIAA Tournament. The Britons will be the No. 4 seed and will take on No. 1 Hope College. 

Sophomore Logan Hutchinson led the Britons with five goals. Kyndall Lewis continued her terrific season with four goals, while classmate Aaliyah Eudabe finished with three goals and a pair of assists. 

An early Alma goal was answered by one from Eudabe.Eudabe later scored to push the Britons ahead, 2-1 before Audrey DeWaters netted one. At the end of one quarter, the Britons led 3-2. Hutchinson scored her first of the day to start the second quarter, but the Scots worked to tie the game. Lewis and Hutchinson added goals, giving the Britons a 6-5 lead at halftime. 

Ellen Chown's man-up goal pushed Albion up 7-5 before the Britons went on a run to distance themselves from the Scots. Despite taking a 10-6 lead, Alma cut the score to 10-9 late in the third. Hutchinson answered with a goal, keeping Albion ahead by two heading into the final 15 minutes. 

The fourth quarter was all Albion, outsourcing the Scots 5-1 in the final quarter. 

Julia Ames and Eudabe each controlled five draws. Ames finished with five ground balls, while DeWaters and Eudabe picked up four ground balls each. Kellie Flynn and Eudabe dished out a pair of assists each in the win. 

Sophomore goalie Nicole Miller made 11 saves to help send Albion to the playoffs. 

On Wednesday, the Brits head to Hope for the first game of the MIAA Tournament. A time will be determined on Sunday.
