Men's and women's tennis start fall seasons

ALBION – On Friday, the Albion College men's and women's tennis teams started the 2024 fall campaign. The women's team knocked off Concordia-Ann Arbor, 4-3, as the men narrowly fell to Spring Arbor, 4-3.

On the women's side, Concordia took the doubles point, winning two of the three matchups in the new scoring system. Karina Nigg and Lynsey Brearley picked up the lone doubles win, a 6-0 mark at third doubles.

The Britons won the final four singles matches to earn the match victory. At third singles, Savannah McDonald won 6-2, 6-0, and Nigg followed with a 7-5, 6-1 win behind her. Brearley won handily at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-0 and sophomore Molly Dunn wrapped it up with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the final bout.

With the new scoring system also in place on the men's side, Albion earned the doubles point. Jacob Doyle and Josh Doyle picked up a 6-3 win at first doubles and Jacob Kubiak and Noah McCollum's 6-3 win at third doubles secured the point.

Freshman Alex Beard rallied to an impressive win at second singles with a 3-6, 6-4, 10-3 margin. McCollum picked up the other singles win for the Britons, claiming a 6-0 6-2 win at sixth singles.

Both teams will host Franklin College on Sunday for a 10 a.m. start.
