Men's hoops knocks off Kzoo

Box Score ALBION – Kurtis Rhodes's career-high 17 points helped the Albion College men's basketball team pick up a 79-68 win over Kalamazoo College. Rhodes was one of four Albion players to finish in double figures.

Coming off the bench, freshman Malachi Hooser II added 13 points for the Brits, as Marco Lucchesi (12) and Dwayne Ray (11) were the other double figure scorers. Fifth year AJ Barden wreaked havoc on the glass, grabbing 15 rebounds in the win.

Kalamazoo held the momentum for a majority of the first half, taking a 38-33 lead into the locker room. Out of the half, the Brits slowly chipped away at the Hornet lead, eventually tying the game up at 44, thanks to a jumper by BJ Hunter. Hunter's bucket sparked a 10-0 run for the hosts, leading 52-44 with 13:55 remaining.

As the Hornets continued to battle, Hooser II and Truma King hit back to back 3-pointers midway through the half, seeing Albion command a double digit lead. Hooser II's second triple – coming with just over nine minutes on the clock – shifted the momentum Albion's was for the remainder of the game with a 63-51 lead.

Despite struggling from beyond the arc, Albion was 75 percent from the free throw line and shot over 51 percent from the floor in the second half. Ray and Barden tallied three steals apiece.

On Wednesday, the Britons host Hope College at 8 p.m. following the women's contest.
