Women's Soccer Season Draws to a Close in MIAA Tournament

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- A blistering first half from the home side proved to be too much to overcome for Albion College women's soccer on Saturday afternoon, as the Britons fell to Kalamazoo College, 4-0, in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament.

With the result, Albion ends the campaign with a 10-5-2 overall record, which marks the most wins in a season for the Britons since 2021.

The Hornets came flying out of the gates on their home field and caught the Britons with a sucker punch in the 11th minute with the game's opening marker. Albion continued to soak up pressure as the half wore on, but Kalamazoo's barrage of 10 shots across the first 45 minutes resulted in a 3-0 lead.

Coming out of the halftime break, the Britons hit the field with a renewed vigor and matched Kalamazoo in shots across the second half, 6-6.

First-year forward Diane Hurtado ripped a pair of shots on frame over the first eight minutes of the second stanza, but the Hornets'Jess Forbis managed to keep the ball out of the back of the net.

Albion had another chance in the 73rd minute, but Bella Fabrizio's effort on goal was turned away. The Hornets capitalized on a pair of late corner kicks, netting one final goal to give the game its final scoreline.

Maddie Welsh stood tall in goal for the Brits with four saves in a 90-minute effort. Senior Erica Fischer played the full 90 minutes, as did Fabrizio. Hurtado ended the tilt with two shots on goal, while Fabrizio registered three.
