Miller leads MLAX over Bridgewater

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Backed by a five point performance from Andrew Miller, the Albion College men's lacrosse team dominated Bridgewater College, picking up its first win of the season, 14-6. Miller led all players with two goals and three assists in the win.

Junior captain Cal Stearns added four goals as well.

Albion struck first with an early strike from Miller. The Britons only needed 37 seconds to double their lead, thanks to a goal from freshman Luke Schuemann. A late goal from the Eagles saw Albion leading 2-1 through one quarter.

The Brits broke the game open in the second quarter, outsourcing Bridgewater by a 6-2 margin. Albion fired off four straight goals, with three coming from Stearns and a second from Miller. Miller then found Joey Pipesh for a goal, giving the Britons a 7-2 lead. As the clock wound down before the break, Carter Kildea found Brendan Mercier in transition to beat the horn, sending Albion to the half leading 8-3.

Albion continued to control the game in the third, adding three more goals. Stearns, along with freshmen Matheiu Champoux and Logan Mozingo all netted goals in the quarter. Miller assisted on both Champoux and Mozingo's goals.

Mercier tallied a man-up goal in the fourth off a pass from Fabrizio Raciti. Later in the quarter, Nathan Vesper found Mercier to give the senior a hat trick for the day. Albion wrapped up its scoring on another goal from Schuemann in the fourth.

Albion outshot the Eagles, 53-21, and was a perfect 1 for 1 on its only man-up opportunity.

Freshman Connor Laidlaw went 13 of 22 on faceoffs, picking up seven ground balls. Defensively, Kildea finished with three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Logan Bride picked up three ground balls and caused three turnovers in the win.

In goal, Caleb Howell earned the win, making three saves in just under 55 minutes of work.

Next Saturday, Albion heads to Otterbein for a 2 p.m. faceoff.
