Laidlaw leads men's lacrosse over Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Connor Laidlaw's 16 of 22 day from the faceoff X helped the Albion College men's lacrosse team defeat Otterbein, 13-7 on Saturday. The freshman went nearly 73 percent, picking up eight ground balls, while Albion was a perfect 30 of 30 on the clear.

Seniors Brendan Mercier and Andrew Miller each scored hat tricks in the contest, as Mercier dished out a pair of assists as well.

Through one period, the Britons held a 4-1 lead over the hosts. Luke Schuemann ignited the scoring for the visitors less than one minute into the game. After a Cardinal goal, Miller, Cal Stearns and Carson Farkas all added unassisted goals for Albion.

The two teams traded goals throughout the second quarter before Otterbein went on a small run to end the half. Miller and Mercier provided Albion's only goals in the quarter for a narrow 6-5 lead at the half.

Heading into the fourth quarter, the Britons led by a 9-7 margin. Albion outscored the Cardinals 4-0 in the final 15 minutes, as Farkas, Mercier, Nathan Vesper and Mathieu Champoux netted goals. The late push by the Britons was enough to hold off Otterbein and improve to 2-1 this season.

Junior Ben Schollett picked up five ground balls in the win. Logan Bride caused a team-high three turnovers and picked up four ground balls for the Brits. In goal, sophomore Caleb Howell was spectacular, racking up 11 saves.

The Britons held Otterbein to 0 of 3 EMOs.

Next Saturday, Albion heads to Illinois Wesleyan for a 1 p.m. CST faceoff.
