Pitching leads baseball over Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio – Daniel Bruzdewicz and Ryan Driscoll got big outs in big moments, helping the Albion College baseball team hold off Bluffton University in a 3-2 win. The duo stranded 10 Bluffton baserunners in the game.

Bruzdewicz (1-1) tossed six innings, striking out four while limiting the Beavers to a pair of runs. Driscoll earned the save pitching the final three innings, allowing just one hit and fanning three.

Shortstop Ryker Mazey was 3 for 4 with an RBI in the win. Freshman Gavin White turned in a 2 for 3 performance, scoring two runs and smacking a double.

Albion struck for a pair in the top of the third. White led off the inning with an opposite field double and moved to third on a wild pitch. With one away, a Bluffton error allowed White to score for a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Evan Schuster lifted a sac fly to center, driving in Ethan Caris for the second Briton run. 

The Britons plated their third run in the fifth with the rally starting around another leadoff hit from White. After a beautiful sac bunt from Carson Dunn, Mazey drove in the freshman with a single to right center for a 3-0 advantage. 

Bluffton pieced together a two-out rally in the home half of the sixth. After two runs came in, Bruzdewicz induced a groundout with the tying run on third to keep Albion ahead. The Beavers once again saw the tying run in scoring position in the eighth, but a Driscoll strikeout ended the threat. 

Albion improves to 3-6 on the young season. On Saturday, the Brits head to Franklin for a twinbill beginning at noon.
