Raether's gem helps baseball salvage split

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Albion College split a pair of decisions with Kenyon College on Saturday afternoon. The Owls won game one, 8-1, before a dazzling outing by Brayden Raether helped Albion salvage the split with a 9-1 win in the nightcap.

In game two, Raether threw a complete game gem. The senior allowed just six hits over nine innings, striking out a career-high 11 batters and not allowing one free pass.

Facing off against Kenyon's ace, the Britons were limited to just four hits in game one. Albion's lone run came in the top of the ninth inning when Kris Stojanovski doubled home Ryker Mazey. The Owls took advantage of Albion's three errors as well.

Cole Giesige (3-1) struck out seven hitters, allowing three earned runs over five innings of work.

Kenyon got on the board first in game two before the visitors fired off nine unanswered runs. Gavin White and Ryker Mazey singled in the top of the third. Braeden Emery drove in his first of four runs in the contest with a base hit and Kris Stojanovski followed with a sac fly for a 2-0 lead.

The Brits tacked on two more in the fourth. White smoked a triple to right center, driving in Evan Schuster and Ethan Caris. Jack Lasceski pushed Albion ahead 5-1 in the fifth with a solo home run,.

Mazey drove in another Albion run in the sixth and Emery followed by belting his team-leading third home run of the year. The three run blast capped off the scoring and gave the fifth year his 14th RBI of the season.

On Wednesday, the Britons head to Ohio Northern for a final tune-up before MIAA action. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
