Baseball drops Kalamazoo series

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A comeback that fell short and a long rain delay hurt the Albion College baseball team, falling in the final two games of the Kalamazoo series. The Hornets took game one, 5-4, before handing the Brits a 9-3 loss in the nightcap.

Kalamazoo got on the board first, plating two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Albion answered in the next frame, scratching across a run. Carson Dunn's sac fly drove in the first run for the Brits. The Hornets immediately responded with a 2-run home run in the home half of the inning, taking a 4-1 lead through five.

Like the previous inning, the Brits had an answer – this one a 2-run blast off the bat of Kris Stojanovski, cutting into the Kalamazoo lead. The Britons were able to tied it up in the seventh when Braeden Emery ripped an RBI double to left center, driving in Evan Schuster. Emery was a perfect 3 for 3 in game one.

Kalamazoo scratched across a run in the bottom of the inning, as Albion was unable to score the tying run.

In game two, the game was halted for 90 minutes in the third inning due to rain. Kalamazoo took a big lead into the late innings, creating distance from the visitors. Austyn Stephens was 2 for 3 with two RBI, and Schuster drove in the other Albion run.

On Tuesday, the Britons host Bluffton for a 4 p.m. single game.
