Zaskowski's 13Ks help softball split

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Backed by Lilly Zaskowski's marvelous day in the circle, the Albion College softball team split their games on Thursday. The Britons defeated Cedar Crest by a 5-0 margin, before dropping a tight 2-1 contest against Saint Elizabeth.

GAME ONE: Albion 5 Cedar Crest 0

Zaskowski allowed just one hit in seven shutout innings, striking out a career-best 13 batters in the win. All five of Albion's runs came in the sixth inning, when Zaskowski started the rally with a one-out single down the left field line. With Hannah Petty coming in to pinch run, Jessie Anstandig smacked a single to right, putting runners at the corners for pinch hitter Parker Douglass

The senior delivered with a single through the right side to drive home Petty. After a throwing error allowed a second run to cross, sophomore Kayla Cole roped a triple to center, bringing home two more runs The Britons got their final run off an infield single off the bat of Natalie Kinney

With her one hit shutout, Zaskowski did not allow one free pass in the contest.

GAME TWO: SAINT ELIZABETH 2 ALBION 1

In a pitcher's duel, Saint Elizabeth plated both of their runs in the top of the first inning. The Britons scored their lone run in the top of the fifth. Kiersten Wilkin hit a leadoff double and later scored on an error by SEU.

Albion was limited to just two hits in game two.

Gabrielle Hirkaway was wonderful in the circle, allowing just three hits in six innings of work. The senior allowed one earned run, striking out five and walking two.

On Friday, the Britons will take on Grove City and Bay Path with games set for 9 and 11 a.m.
