Game Recap: Softball |

Softball walks off, splits with Hope

ALBION – With some walkoff magic, the Albion College softball team earned another MIAA split, this one coming against Hope College. Albion won the first game 5-4 before dropping game two by a 9-1 margin.

GAME ONE: Albion 5 Hope 4

The Flying Dutch took a 3-0 lead into the sixth inning, but the Brits rallied for four runs in the home half of the frame. Lilly Zaskowski worked a leadoff walk and Hannah Petty came in to pinch run. Jessie Andstandig singled to center and Petty went to third, putting runners at the corners.

With one away, Megan Maiuri drove in Petty to cut the Hope lead to 3-1. Rachel Horecki followed with a base hit to load the bases for the Britons. With the top of the lineup up, Natalie Kinney drew a bases loaded walk to cut the deficit to one run.
Sophomore Sydney Schoenborn knocked an RBI single to left to tie the game at three. Kearney Miller followed by drawing a bases loaded walk for a 4-3 lead.

Hope tied the game in the top of the seventh, but the Britons had walkoff magic in the home half of the inning.

Anstandig led off the bottom of the seventh with a four pitch walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. After a perfectly executed bunt by Kiersten Wilkin, Maiuri played the role of hero with a bloop single into left and a 5-4 victory.

GAME TWO: Hope 9 Albion 1 (5 innings)

The Britons committed five errors in the nightcap, aiding the Flying Dutch to the game two win. Zaskowski drove in Albion's only run of the contest.

Tomorrow, Albion will finish its long weekend with a twinbill against Transylvania, commencing at 12 p.m.
