Giesige sets strikeouts record in sweep of Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. – Concluding their 2025 season, the Albion College baseball team finished the year with a massive sweep against Adrian College. Junior southpaw Cole Giesige broke his own single-season strikeout record, fanning five and setting the new mark at 76.

GAME ONE: Albion 3 Adrian 2

After the Bulldogs scored a pair of unearned runs, the Britons battled back to eventually win in the top of the ninth. In the fifth, Albion scored their first run when Gavin White worked a one-out walk and Drew Ribble smacked a single. With two away, the Bulldogs committed an error, allowing Albion to trim the lead in half.

Once again, it was the bottom of the order doing damage in the seventh, as a fielder's choice allowed Carter Stahl to cross.

White led off the ninth with a double to left, and two batters later, an error saw Carson Dunn crossing the plate for a 3-2 lead.

In the home half of the ninth, Brendan Schultz retired the side in order. Schultz earned the win in relief, while Giesige tossed seven strong innings for the Brits.

GAME TWO: Albion 6 Adrian 5

After trailing in the early goings, Albion scored their first run in the top of the sixth. With one away, Evan Schuster was hit by a pitch and came around to score when Austyn Stephens doubled to right center. The Bulldogs scored twice in the bottom of the sixth, grabbing a 5-1 lead.

In the eighth, Albion scored five runs to take the lead for good. With some unearned runs on the board, freshman Drew Ribble provided the big blow, tying the game with a two-run single to center. Ryker Mazey gave Albion the lead for good with a single and a 6-5 lead.

Zak Kelly earned the win in relief, allowing no runs and just two hits in 2.2 innings of work. Brayden Raether threw 6.1 strong innings for the Britons.

In Friday's game of the series, the Brits fell in a 32-9 slugfest, allowing 20 unearned runs by the Bulldogs.
