Albion Sweeps Alma to Start Conference Play

Albion, Mich. - Albion Women's Volleyball swept Alma 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-20) to open conference play. 

Bri Whitfield led the team with 11 kills, while Emma Pagliarella added 10 and Carly Frank added nine. Molly Edmunds led the team with 23 assists and three aces, while Joelle Boeskool added 18 assists. Paige Williamson led the defense with 17 digs and Ava Wilcox added 11. 

The Brits opened the match on a 8-3 run, with five kills scored for the Brits. The Brits and Scots would trade off points before the Brits would go on a 3-0 run thanks to two aces by Edmunds. Both teams would continue to trade off points before the Brits would finish the set on a 6-2 run, with Margaret Jones having the final kill to give the Brits the 1-0 advantage. 

The Scots would come out on a 3-2 run before the Brits would go on a 4-0 run to take the lead 6-3. The Brits would continue to grow their lead going on a 5-1 run to take an 11-5 lead. The Scots would rally back to bring the score back within one, 11-12. The Brits would respond going on a 6-1 run, with five kills for the Brits. The Scots would try and bring it back, however Jones would find a gap and give the Brits a 2-0 lead. 

The Scots would open the third set on a 6-4 run. The Brits would respond with a 8-2 run of their own, with Jones having back to back kills to take the lead 12-8. The Scots would respond going on a 7-0 run to take the lead 15-12. The Brits would remain calm and bounce back with a 7-1 run with back-to-back kills to regain the lead 19-16. The set would finish in a back and forth battle before Whitfield would seal the victory for the Brits. 

The Brits return to conference play on Wednesday October 7th at St. Mary's at 7 PM.

  • Hitting a .273, this is the fourth best hitting percentage for the Brits
  • With seven aces, that ties the third most in a match this season 
  • The Brits held the Scots to a 0.097 hitting percentage, this is the fifth lowest against the Brits this season
