Albion, Mich.- The Albion Men's Soccer team tied in their conference opener against the Flying Dutch, 1-1. The Brits return to conference action on Saturday October 10th as the travel to Olivet at 1PM.
Robin Ruigendijk led the team with three shots while Christian Orpienda added two shots. Goalie
Tom Veresh recorded five saves.
The first half would start off with both teams looking to be the first to find the net. The Dutch would take five of their six first half shots in the first 11 minutes, with four of them being saved by Veresh. The back half of the period would be a defensive battle with neither team wanting to give up the opening goal. The teams would enter the half tied at 0-0.
The Dutch offense would come back out like they did in the beginning of the game, looking to score. The would take four shots in the opening 10 minutes before they would find the goal in the 63rd minute to take a 1-0 lead. Not even five minutes later the Brits would be pressing their offense and be on the door of scoring when off a cross by Jasek Zielaskowki the Dutch goalie would intercept and it would bounce of a Dutch player into the goal for the Brits to even the game 1-1 in the 67th minute. The game would continue to be a defensive battle. In the final seven minutes of play the Dutch would put pressure on the Brits getting three shots off and having three corner kicks. However the Brits defense would hold strong with amazing play by Veresh in the goal to finish the game tied 1-1.
