ALBION, Mich. — After holding an advantage for about ¾ of the game, the Albion men's basketball team lost, 73-70, to Hope at Kresge Gymnasium.
The Britons built an 11-8 lead to begin the game. After a three-point deficit with 12:22 left in the first half, Albion went on a 12-4 run to go up 23-18 with 6:28 remaining in the period.
In the final four minutes, the Britons outscored the Flying Dutch 12-8 and held a 40-32 halftime advantage.
Albion kept their steady lead to begin the second, with the advantage always being a 1-2 possession game.
However, the tides began to take a turn once Hope took their first lead of the half with 8:55 remaining. From there, they went on an 11-4 run to make it a 63-57 game with just over five minutes left.
Michael Umeh notched an old fashioned three-point play to cut the deficit to two, 65-63, but a Flying Dutch three pointer three possessions later with 2:15 left was the dagger that sealed the win for good as the Britons could never get to within a single possession.
Mason Brodi had a career-high 18 points for the Britons, while Umeh notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Malachi Hooser II (12) and
Kam Mayes (10) also recorded double-digit point totals.
