ANGOLA, Ind. — The Albion women's basketball team's memorable season came to an end in the MIAA Semifinals, as the No. 3 seeded Britons dropped to No. 2 seeded Hope, 73-58 at Trine.
The Flying Dutch never allowed the Britons to lead the entire game and jumped out to a 15-6 lead with 3:30 left in the first which led them to a 20-9 advantage at the end of the quarter.
Hope kept their double-digit lead well into the second, but Albion began to chip away at it going on a 7-0 run near the end of the half capped off on an
Anyieth Nhial three pointer to make it 29-24 with 49 seconds left.
After three more Flying Dutch points,
Khaleeya Cook made a buzzer-beater layup to make it 32-27 at the break.
Hope came out firing in the second half, charging on an 11-2 run to start the stanza. They kept their lead over 10 points for the majority of the third and led 57-44 at quarter's end while shooting 58% from the field in the stanza.
Albion never made it closer than a 10-point game in the fourth. MIAA MVP
Meghan Trewhella notched a team-high 16 points, while
Payton Baker scored 15. Cook had 12 points and 11 rebounds, and MIAA Defensive Player of the Year
Ava Guilford swiped seven steals.
