CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – The Albion baseball team dropped their second game, 13-4, against Penn State Behrend but rebounded with an 11-3 victory over Hiram in the final game.
Game 1 vs. Penn State-Behrend
Penn State-Behrend got the bats going early as they recorded three runs in the bottom of the second. Senior Zak Kelly threw three innings for the Brits with an era of four, along with two strikeouts.
The Britons looked to turn the tide as they struck back at the top of the third inning, scoring twice as both Gavin White and Evan Schuster crossed home plate to narrow the lead to just 3-2.
The momentum did not last as long as expected, as Penn State-Behrend came firing back with two runs of their own. Freshman Max Holser started the fourth inning with a home run to right field, the first of his career to narrow Penn State-Behrend's lead to 5-3.
Penn State-Behrend opened the bottom of the fourth with a double to right field, which led to Penn State tacking on three more runs. They continued to dominate in the bottom of the fifth to expand their lead to five. A run at the bottom of the eighth proved to be too much for the Brits as the lead became out of reach.
Game 2 vs. Hiram
Albion set the tone early behind Brendan Schultz, who controlled the game from the start. The right-hander tossed six hitless innings while striking out eight, keeping Hiram's offense off balance throughout his outing.
The Britons broke through offensively in the third inning, plating three runs to take the early lead. RBIs from Max Hosler, Gavin White, and Graham DeSantis fueled the inning and gave Albion momentum.
Hiram responded in the following frame, trimming the deficit to two runs, but Albion answered quickly as Hosler came around to score on an error to extend the Britons' advantage.
The game was put out of reach in the eighth inning when Albion erupted for six runs, opening up a comfortable lead. A late push from Hiram proved too little, too late as the Britons secured the win.
