AUBURNDALE, Fla. — The Albion baseball team caught fire in their Sunshine State debut, as they won both games against Fitchburg State (11-4) and Pitt-Greensburg (12-11).
Game 1 vs. Fitchburg State
The Britons got on the board in the second with three runs via an error,
Drew Ribble RBI single and
Jonjay Arreazola double to take a 3-0 lead.
A
Logan Farmer RBI single made it 4-0 in the third, and Farmer also hit a sacrifice fly for the Britons' fifth run of the game in the fifth.
Albion continued its momentum with six more runs the rest of the game, with three coming off wild pitches.
Carter Stahl hit a sacrifice fly, and
Logan DeVos hit an infield RBI single as part of the scoring barrage.
Daniel Bruzdewicz pitched eight solid innings, giving up just two runs and striking out five. Stahl and DeVos also had multiple hits.
Game 2 vs. Pitt-Greensburg
Both teams traded runs to start the game, as Ribble got Albion on the board with an infield RBI single in the second.
The Bobcats tacked on two in the third for a two-run advantage, but the Britons knotted the score on a
Gavin White double and
Tyler Murphy single in the home half of the frame.
Pitt-Greensburg notched three in the fourth, but Albion would once again tie it up in the bottom half. The first two were scored courtesy of wild pitches, and White cranked a double to right field to make it 6-6.
Then,
Tyler Murphy proceeded to reach first on an error which prompted two more runs across the plate for the Britons' first lead of the game.
The Bobcats got within one in the eighth, but
Max Holser hit a moonshot to left field to score three runs and make it 11-7. A Jack Laporte sacrifice fly later in the inning proved to be the winning score.
Pitt-Greensburg made it interesting in the ninth, scoring four runs. With two outs and runners on first and second, Murphy came into pitch and struck out the batter looking to end the threat.
Albion managed 11 hits, while
Brandon Lipson pitched 5.1 innings of relief and struck out eight for the win.
