ALBION, Mich. – It was a tale of two halves for the Albion men's basketball team.
The Britons were humming in the first stanza, surrendering their lead only once and building a nine-point advantage, 31-22, at the intermission.
But the visiting Olivet Comets stormed out the gates on a 12-0 run to open the second and never gave up their advantage, winning 71-57 at Kresge Gymnasium.
The Comets outscored the Britons, 49-26, during the stanza.
Albion's advantage in the first half was powered by 9-0 run with 12:37 left and 11 points each from Kameron Mayes and
Michael Umeh.
Olivet tied it up on two more occasions in the stanza, but the Britons responded with scores from Mayes and Umeh while ending the half on a 13-4 run after Umeh's bucket.
The Comets kept their momentum going after their fast start to the second half, hitting on 60% of their threes and over 50% from the field. They also forced 10 Briton turnovers in the stanza while outscoring Albion on fast break points, 16-2, for the game.
Despite the loss, Umeh had a game-high 24 points, while Mayes scored 16.
