Softball Continues Strong Southern Showing With Sweep

LITTLE RIVER, S.C. — Following an off day in Myrtle Beach, the Britons returned to action with a strong showing, posting a 10-3 victory over Immaculata and a 7-0 shutout against Penn State Altoona.

Game 1 vs. Immaculata

The Britons were on point behind a balanced attack. Lilly Zaskowski led the way offensively with three hits and three RBIs, while Albion's defense stayed perfect with zero errors. Alaina Brown took the circle and pitched all seven innings, holding the other team to just three runs.

Albion came out swinging in the top of the first, quickly putting three runs on the board. Zaskowski drew a walk, and Cameron McDonald reached on an error. Allie Trantham then ripped a double to right field, driving in both McDonald and Zaskowski to give the Britons an early 3-0 lead.

Immaculata responded in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs to narrow the gap to 3-2. But Albion wasn't done—adding two runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings while shutting out Immaculata the rest of the way.

In the top of the seventh, the Britons weren't finished. Jaden Henderson singled to get on base, and Layla Vallone followed with a single to right field, driving in Henderson and pushing the lead to 10-3. Immaculata was unable to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh.

Game 2 vs. Penn State Altoona

The Albion softball team delivered an impressive shutout in game two of the day, defeating Penn State Altoona 7-0. The Britons were strong at the plate, tallying 13 hits and scoring seven runs. In the circle, Lilly Zaskowski turned in a dominant performance, recording seven strikeouts and holding Penn State Altoona scoreless.

Albion got on the board in the top of the second when Kiersten Wilkin delivered an RBI, bringing home Ryley Frank to give the Britons a 1-0 lead. In the third inning, Albion added two more runs as Jessie Anstandig and Allie Trantham each recorded an RBI, extending the Britons' advantage to 3-0.

The Britons were held scoreless over the next few innings until the sixth, when Wilkin came through again with a big double to center field. Kayla Cole followed with a groundout that brought Wilkin home, pushing Albion's lead to 4-0.

Albion added three more runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by RBIs from Lilly Zaskowski and Allie Trantham, while Sophia Shingles came home on a wild pitch.

Additionally, Albion completed the four final outs of their game against Martin Luther from Sunday. The contest was postponed and to be continued later due to a long lightning delay. Holding a 7-2 advantage when the game ended, the Britons tacked on two more runs to seal a 9-2 win officially.
