LITTLE RIVER, S.C. — The Albion softball team split its games today, earning a narrow 5–4 victory over Thiel before falling 7-0 to the College of New Jersey.
Game 1 vs. Thiel
In a tightly contested matchup against Thiel, the Britons pulled out a 5–4 victory. Lilly Zaskowski pitched all seven innings, recording nine strikeouts.
In the bottom of the second, the Britons found their rhythm at the plate. Allie Trantham ripped a triple down the right-field line, and Ryley Frank followed with a groundout that brought Trantham home to give Albion a 1–0 lead.
Thiel responded in the top of the third, tying the game at 1–1. Albion answered in the bottom of the fourth when Kiersten Wilkin delivered an RBI to put the Britons back on top.
Thiel surged ahead in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs to take a 4–2 lead. Albion quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning, plating two runs to even the score at 4–4. After holding Thiel scoreless in the top of the sixth, the Britons regained the lead in the bottom of the inning, pushing across one run to take a 5–4 advantage.
After three quick outs in the top of the seventh, including a game-ending strikeout from Zaskowski, the Britons secured the victory.
Game 2 vs. TCNJ
After capitalizing on their first game of the morning, Albion struggled to generate offense in their second matchup of the day.
Kayla Cole recorded the Britons' only hit in the bottom of the third inning, but Albion was unable to push a run across the plate. Alaina Brown, Jaden Henderson, and Lilly Zaskowski each saw time in the circle, splitting the pitching duties.
