ALBION, Mich. — The Albion softball team split with Capital in a doubleheader at Dempsey Field. The Britons won the first game, 4-2, and dropped the second, 6-3.
Game 1
Albion struck first in the second on an infield single from
Kayla Cole. Capital answered with an RBI double in the fourth to knot the game, but Cole hit another single in the home half of the frame to go back in front.
Elaina Braunscheidel notched another single that brought Cole across the plate to extend their advantage.
After a Comet run made it 3-2 in the fifth, the Britons got one more insurance run on a wild pitch in the same inning.
Lilly Zaskowski was magnificent in the circle once again, pitching all seven innings with six hits, the two runs and three strikeouts.
Game 2
Capital got on the board right away in the first with an RBI single and groundout to take a quick 2-0 lead.
They added a run in the fifth on an error, but Albion plated two runs in the home half of the frame with a
Jessie Anstandig two-RBI single to cut the deficit to one.
The Comets blew the game open more in the sixth with three scores on a double, infield single and error.
Albion tallied their final run on a
Kiersten Wilkin RBI single in the sixth.
Jaden Henderson allowed all six runs for the Britons in the loss, while
Alaina Brown pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
The Britons did outhit the Comets, 9-5, in the game but had three errors compared to none for Capital.

Albion will head to Grand Rapids to face Grace Christian on Friday, March 27. The doubleheader is set to begin at 3 p.m. with a 5 p.m. start to follow for the second game.
