Men's Lacrosse's Season Ends With Loss to Calvin in MIAA Tournament Semifinals

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The No. 3 seed Albion men's lacrosse team's season came to an end as they dropped to No. 2 seed Calvin, 17-10, in the MIAA Tournament semifinals.

Both teams traded goals to begin the game, but the Knights scored two in a row to make it 3-1 with 8:01 left in the opening quarter.

The Britons notched two of their own from Mathieu Champoux and Cal Stearns and knotted the contest back up. After a man-up goal from Calvin, Albion made it 4-4 on a Carson Farkas score but gave the lead to the Knights once more just seven seconds later where the score remained at the end of the period.

The contest saw two ties and two lead changes at the beginning of the second. Albion took their first and only lead of the game with 9:24 remaining in the half on a Luke Schuemann goal to make it 7-6.

Only six seconds later, the Knights evened it up at 7-7 and took advantage of a Logan Bride non-releasable penalty to score two man-up goals and take a two-score lead.

Calvin rode that momentum for the rest of the half as they tacked on four more goals to make it 13-7 at the intermission.

Albion notched the third period's first two goals from Farkas and Joey Pipesh and made the score 13-9. The Knights posted one more to take a five-goal advantage heading into the fourth.

Schuemann's final goal of the contest put the game back to four with 10:58 left, but Calvin closed it out with three consecutive scores.

The Knights outshot the Britons, 59-32, and won the groundball battle, 50-39. They also won 23 faceoffs compared to eight from Albion and capitalized on all five man-up opportunities.

Individually, Schuemann posted a hat trick and four assists, while Farkas had two goals. Caleb Howell made 14 saves in net.

Albion ended its season 12-7 (4-2 MIAA) and made its 13th straight trip to the MIAA Semifinals. It was also their 11th 10-win campaign in the 17-year history of the program.
